The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Central Election Committee has approved the candidature of former Bureaucrat Hardeep Singh Puri for the Rajya Sabha by-election 2026 from Madhya Pradesh, according to a party press release issued on 28 October 2026.

Puri, a senior BJP leader and Union Minister, brings considerable administrative experience and an understanding of public policy to the political arena. His association with governance, diplomacy and national policy discussions has contributed to his public profile. His candidature reflects the party’s decision to nominate an experienced leader for the parliamentary contest.

A former diplomat, Puri has served in key international assignments and has been involved in important policy areas during his political career. His experience in public administration and engagement with national issues are expected to remain relevant to his parliamentary responsibilities.

The announcement was issued by Tarun Chugh, BJP National General Secretary and Headquarters In-charge. The by-election will determine the party’s representation in the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.
