THDCIL Signs MoU and PPA with Gujarat for 184 MW Clean Power from Tehri PSP

(THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM) Rishikesh, 25 June 2025: In a significant stride for India’s renewable energy sector, THDC India Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a Power Purchase Agreement with the Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the supply of 184.08 MW of clean power from the Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) in Uttarakhand.
This development aims to support Gujarat’s peak-hour electricity requirements and facilitate large-scale integration of renewable energy into the grid. The agreement was formalised at a ceremony held on 25 June 2025.
The event was attended by Kanubhai Desai, Minister of Finance, Energy and Petrochemicals, Government of Gujarat; S. J. Haider, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat; Anupam Anand, MD, GUVNL; Bhakti Shamal, Joint Secretary, Government of Gujarat; R. K. Vishnoi, CMD, THDCIL; Sipan Kumar Garg, Director (Finance), THDCIL; and K. P. Jangid, Director (Finance), GUVNL.
R. K. Vishnoi highlighted that the agreement marks a major milestone in India’s clean energy transition. He emphasized that the Tehri PSP, the country’s first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant, offers Gujarat a dependable and sustainable power solution to meet peak demand. He reiterated THDCIL’s commitment to innovation in hydropower and sustainable energy generation.
Sipan Kumar Garg noted that this collaboration is a strategic move towards delivering advanced and commercially viable clean energy solutions. He added that the company continues to focus on driving growth through forward-thinking energy initiatives.
The MoU and PPA align with the Government of India’s strategy to promote pumped storage technology as a flexible generation option and a key tool for grid balancing amid increasing renewable energy adoption.
Also present during the signing were Sourav Nandy, GM (Finance), GUVNL; R. K. Verma, AGM, THDCIL; Ajay Vaish, DGM, THDCIL and other senior officials from the Government of Gujarat, GUVNL, and THDCIL.
