(THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM) In moments of national tragedy, when chaos, grief, and uncertainty prevail, timely and sensitive communication becomes not just a responsibility, but a lifeline. The Corporate Communication Department of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has consistently demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to this cause—acting swiftly, compassionately, and with great clarity to support affected families across the country.
From devastating train accidents to natural calamities and unprecedented public health crises, the department has played a pivotal role in ensuring that LIC’s response is not only rapid but also deeply humane. Following the tragic Air India AI 171 crash in Ahmedabad on 12th June 2025, LIC’s announcement of special concessions and expedited claim settlements came as a critical message of solace to the grieving families. Underlining empathy over red tape, the Corporation declared that alternative documentation—such as government compensation records or airline confirmations—would be accepted in lieu of traditional death certificates.

This isn’t an isolated example. LIC’s Corporate Communication team has been at the forefront during several national emergencies. In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir, and the Balasore train accident in Odisha, the department’s immediate press releases conveyed LIC’s sorrow and detailed the support measures offered. Then Chairperson’s public expression of grief, and his commitment to easing procedural formalities, reached the public effectively thanks to the communication team’s timely and clear messaging.
The Balasore response was particularly significant: LIC offered to accept casualty lists published by Railways, Police, or State/Central Government in lieu of registered death certificates—ensuring that bereaved families weren’t burdened by documentation stress. Help desks were set up at divisional and branch levels, and a dedicated helpline was activated—again, actions that were communicated swiftly to the public through multiple platforms.
When Cyclone Biparjoy struck, the department again ensured LIC’s proactive stance reached those in need. By announcing nodal officers and a dedicated claim submission portal, the communication ensured that victims and their families had ready access to assistance. Similar clarity and urgency were displayed during the landslide tragedy in Wayanad and during the COVID-19 pandemic, when grace periods were extended and digital payment options widely promoted.
Even amid administrative complexities, LIC’s Corporate Communication Department has never lost sight of the emotional dimension of these disasters. Its consistent messaging reflects not just efficiency, but care. By relaxing norms, simplifying processes, and ensuring visibility of these efforts, the department has enabled LIC to remain what it has always aspired to be—a dependable pillar of security and trust.
In essence, behind every announcement that reassures, every relief measure that reaches the ground, and every claim that is settled with urgency and empathy, stands a dedicated communication team. Their role has been instrumental in bridging the gap between institutional readiness and public need—making LIC not just a financial institution, but a caring national institution.
