The IAS Association expressed deep shock and sorrow at her demise, recalling her as an exceptional officer who combined professional excellence with rare compassion.

Dr. Beela’s career was marked by versatility and dedication across a wide range of sectors — health, energy, fisheries, and disaster management. She will be remembered most prominently for her outstanding service as Tamil Nadu’s Health Secretary during the unprecedented challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic. Leading the state’s health administration with courage and clarity, she ensured efficient coordination of medical infrastructure, vaccination drives, and crisis response, earning respect from both colleagues and the public.

Beyond her pivotal role in health, Dr. Beela also made significant contributions to the fisheries sector, empowering coastal communities with sustainable policies, as well as to the energy and disaster management departments, where her farsighted initiatives strengthened resilience and public welfare mechanisms.
