By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The Bhoomi Poojan of the Assam Valley Fertilizer & Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL) Project at Namrup marked a defining moment for Assam, transforming long-cherished hopes into a tangible reality. For the people of this historic region, the ceremony symbolised renewal, resilience and the beginning of a new developmental chapter.
The foundation of the AVFCCL Namrup Ammonia–Urea Project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and several other dignitaries. The occasion carried deep national and regional significance, reflecting the Centre and the state’s shared commitment to strengthening industrial growth and self-reliance in the North-East.
With an investment exceeding ₹10,000 crore, the project is designed to produce 12.70 lakh metric tonnes of urea annually. This major capacity addition positions Namrup once again as a key hub on India’s fertilizer map, addressing the long-standing demand for domestic fertilizer production and reducing dependence on imports.
Namrup’s association with fertilizers is woven into its social and economic fabric. For decades, the fertilizer plant has supported livelihoods and shaped the identity of the region. The revival of this legacy has been an enduring aspiration for thousands of families, and the new AVFCCL project gives that aspiration a renewed sense of confidence and purpose.
Beyond fertilizer security, the project promises wide-ranging benefits. It is expected to create significant employment opportunities for local youth, stimulate ancillary industries, and support sectors such as transport, services and small businesses. For farmers, improved availability of fertilizers will contribute to enhanced agricultural productivity, strengthening rural incomes and food security.
More than an industrial undertaking, the AVFCCL Namrup project stands as a commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development. It reinforces the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat while ensuring that Assam and the North-Eastern region play a stronger role in India’s economic journey.
As the foundation is laid and work begins, Namrup steps confidently into a new era—one defined by progress, prosperity and the promise of a brighter future for generations to come.
