NHPC Leadership Reviews Salal Power Station Operations in Jammu and Kashmir

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC, Bhupendra Gupta, along with Director (Technical) Suprakash Adhikari, undertook an extensive visit to the Salal Power Station in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on 26 December 2025 to review operational, technical and logistical aspects of the project.
During the visit, the NHPC leadership conducted a detailed inspection of the upstream areas of the Salal Dam built on the Chenab River, covering Thunpal, Rad Nallah, Chinkah, Arnas, Ansh Nallah and Kanthal. The downstream stretch, including Talwara, Baradari Bridge and the TRT outlet, was also examined to assess structural integrity, water flow management and safety parameters.
The visit included a formal interaction with the Deputy Commissioner of Reasi district, Nidhi Malik, during which various power station-related issues were discussed, reflecting NHPC’s coordination with the local administration for smooth and efficient operations.
As part of the review, the Chairman and Managing Director and the Director (Technical) also visited the Reasi station siding to evaluate transportation possibilities linked to the power station. They interacted with officers and staff at the Salal Power Station and issued necessary directions aimed at ensuring operational efficiency, safety compliance and timely execution of ongoing activities.
The visit underscored NHPC’s continued focus on strengthening hydropower infrastructure and optimizing performance at one of its key projects in the region.
