Mrs. Sultana of the Shaikh Family Passes Away in Deoband

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM Mrs. Sultana, wife of late Shaikh Mohammad Abul Zafar and daughter-in-law of late Shaikh Mohammad Abul Khair, passed away on Monday morning in Deoband after a brief illness. She was 80. Her passing has brought deep sorrow to family members and the wider community in Deoband, where the Shaikh family has long been respected for its heritage and standing.
Mrs. Sultana was the mother of Abul Hayat, Tazeen Siddiqui and their siblings. She was also the paternal aunt of Abul Hasan and Abul Umar, senior Journalists. Within the family, she was regarded as a pillar of strength, known for her simplicity, warmth and unwavering commitment to family values.
The Shaikh family traces its lineage to late Rasool Baksh, the founder of Rasoolpur, a historic settlement located in the general vicinity of Deoband in Saharanpur district. As direct descendants of Rasool Baksh, the family occupies a distinctive place in the local history of the region. Over generations, the Shaikh family has been counted among the prominent families of erstwhile Deoband, closely associated with its social and cultural evolution.
Though Mrs. Sultana largely maintained a private life, her influence within the extended family was profound. She played a quiet yet meaningful role in preserving traditions, nurturing relationships across generations and providing guidance during both joyful and difficult times. Those who knew her remember her for her calm disposition, compassion and sense of responsibility.
Her demise marks not only the loss of a respected family elder but also the end of a significant chapter connected to Deoband’s older social fabric. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and a large extended family.
Family members, relatives and well-wishers have expressed heartfelt condolences and offered prayers for the departed soul, remembering Mrs. Sultana as a dignified and gentle presence whose memory will endure.
