DFCCIL to Transform Ajmer into a Global Logistics Hub with New Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at New Saradhana

Terminal at New Saradhana to tap into Rajasthan’s Marble, Granite & Minieral potential; Expected to decongest Road and shift of daily road to rail

In a significant step towards strengthening rail-based logistics infrastructure and improving freight connectivity in Rajasthan, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) today commissioned the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) at New Saradhana on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). The terminal was inaugurated by Praveen Kumar, Managing Director, DFCCIL.

Speaking on the occasion, Praveen Kumar said that the terminal will play an important role in enhancing logistics efficiency, reducing transportation costs and improving supply chain reliability for industries in the Ajmer region in Rajasthan. He emphasised that the facility will strengthen the integration of rail and road transport, enabling faster and more cost-effective movement of goods.

The occasion was attended by Shobhit Bhatnagar, Director (Operations & Business Development); Anurag Sharma, Director (Infrastructure); and S. P. Verma, GGM, (Business Development & Business Analytics); Vineet Tyagi, GM/Co-ordination (Ajmer unit); Rajendra Singh Chaudhary, GM/Coordination (Jaipur unit); Prince Kumar, Regional Manager, CWC; J.S. Matharu Advisor CWC, along with senior officials from DFCCIL Corporate Office, Jaipur, Ajmer Unit and CWC.

During the event, Rajesh Navhal, DGM (OP&BD), Ajmer; Chandra Shekhar Sharma, DGM (Business Development), Corporate Office; C. L. Chowdhary, Manager (OP&BD), Jaipur; V.Chaturvedi, Manager (OP&BD), Corporate Office and Sunil Saini, Asst. Manager OP&BD, Ajmer were also present.

Developed by the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) at a cost of approximately ₹5 crore, the terminal is the first Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal developed with optimal cost efficiency, setting a benchmark for future projects. Spread over an area of about 4.3 acres, the facility is equipped with modern cargo handling infrastructure, warehousing facilities, and seamless multimodal connectivity, ensuring efficient integration between rail and road networks.

The commissioning of the terminal is expected to significantly enhance first-mile and last-mile connectivity, making freight transportation faster, safer, and more economical for industries and traders in the region.

The terminal is expected to handle approximately 40 rakes per month, translating to over 1.5 million tonnes per annum, primarily comprising containers, marble, granite, minerals, and other commodities. With its strategic location, Ajmer (Rajasthan) will now be seamlessly connected to major ports including JNPT, Pipavav, and Mundra through the high-speed freight network of the WDFC, enabling faster and more efficient movement of EXIM cargo.

The commissioning of the New Saradhana GCT (DGSN) is poised to transform the Ajmer region into an emerging logistics hub, boosting industrial growth, reducing logistics costs, and strengthening the overall supply chain ecosystem.
