New Delhi | 22 March 2026 |In a significant step towards strengthening rail-based agri-logistics, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has facilitated the movement of a full rake of perishable cargo from New Ancheli (Gujarat) to Adarsh Nagar (Delhi), enabling efficient and time-bound long-distance transportation of agricultural produce.
Dispatched on 22.03.2026 by Amalsad Vibhag Vividh Karyakari Sahakari Khedut Mandli Ltd., the consignment comprised 15 parcel vans (VPs) loaded with fresh chikoo. Operated under DFCCIL’s Mumbai Unit, the rake movement demonstrates the growing adoption of rail-based logistics by farmer collectives for transporting perishable commodities to distant consumption markets.
Transported at a freight value of approximately ₹75,000, the movement highlights the cost efficiency, predictability, and scalability of rail transport for bulk agri-commodities. Unlike conventional road-based logistics, which involve higher fuel consumption, toll charges, and delays due to congestion, the Dedicated Freight Corridor enables faster, uninterrupted movement, ensuring that perishable produce reaches markets in better condition with minimal spoilage.
The DFCCIL model integrates first-mile and last-mile connectivity through road with high-capacity rail transport for the long haul, creating a seamless multimodal logistics chain. This approach reduces handling complexities, optimises transit time, and enhances supply chain reliability, particularly for sensitive agricultural produce.
By enabling bulk aggregation and movement through rail, the initiative allows farmers to reduce logistics costs, access distant high-demand markets, and improve price realization. At the same time, it ensures timely availability of fresh produce in urban markets, benefiting consumers as well.
The development aligns with the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which focuses on creating an integrated, efficient, and sustainable logistics ecosystem. By seamlessly connecting production centers with consumption markets, DFCCIL is playing a crucial role in strengthening the nation’s supply chain infrastructure.
