By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| In a compelling story of resilience and reinvention, Sohan Singh, a 33-year-old Income Tax Department employee from Madhya Pradesh, is redefining what it means to pursue passion alongside profession. A taxman by duty, yet an actor and pistol shooter at heart, Sohan’s journey is as layered as it is inspiring.
Just months ago, life dealt him a harsh setback. A severe spinal injury sustained during a bodybuilding session left him confined to a wheelchair for nearly three months. For many, such an ordeal could have meant a prolonged pause—if not an end—to personal ambitions. But for Sohan, it became a moment of introspection and redirection.
During recovery, he found himself drawn to televised shooting competitions. What began as a way to pass time soon transformed into a deep-seated aspiration. With renewed determination, he resolved to take up pistol shooting seriously once back on his feet.
Today, that resolve is translating into results. A state-level silver medalist, Sohan is now preparing for the prestigious 24th Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Championship in New Delhi. What makes his journey even more remarkable is the absence of institutional support—no sports quota benefits, no special leave—only self-belief and self-funded training.
“I paid EMIs for my pistol even when I was recovering,” he shares, underscoring the personal sacrifices behind his pursuit. “Shooting opened a completely new dimension for me.”
Yet, shooting is just one facet of his multidimensional life. Sohan is also a seasoned actor, having worked across South Indian films, Bollywood projects, documentaries, and television serials. With several assignments in the pipeline, he continues to balance demanding film schedules with rigorous practice sessions at the shooting range.
Despite narrowly missing a medal at last year’s national championship—losing out by a single point after tying the winner’s score—Sohan remains undeterred. If anything, the setback has sharpened his focus. “That one point still stays with me. It drives me every day,” he says, hinting at redemption in the upcoming competitions.
Among peers, his discipline and precision have already earned admiration. Fellow shooters note his composure and consistency, especially given the challenges he has overcome in such a short span.
Sohan Singh’s story is not merely about sport or profession—it is about the strength to rise, adapt, and excel across domains. Whether under studio lights, at a shooting range, or behind a desk crunching numbers, he embodies a rare blend of grit and grace.
And as he sets his sights higher, one thing is certain—this is a journey far from its final shot.
