A 1998-batch officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, Gupta takes over the state’s top bureaucratic position at a time when governance, fiscal management and developmental coordination remain central to the government’s priorities.

Before his formal appointment, Sanjay Gupta had been serving as Additional Chief Secretary and was also handling the additional charge of the Chief Secretary’s office.
