By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| In a notable step towards strengthening Karnataka’s power transmission infrastructure, REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has successfully handed over two Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) created for key intra-state transmission projects in Karnataka under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route.

On 30 May 2026, RECPDCL transferred Hampapura Power Transmission Limited to Resonia Limited and Mekhali Power Transmission Limited to Dilip Buildcon Limited, following the successful completion of the competitive bidding process. RECPDCL acted as the Bid Process Coordinator for both projects, which will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.

The handover ceremonies were conducted by Monisha Barua, General Manager and Head of Department, RECPDCL, in the presence of the Managing Director of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), senior officials of RECPDCL and KPTCL representatives.

Under the first project, Hampapura Power Transmission Limited was handed over to Tushar Chhabra, Head (Business Acquisition), Resonia Limited. The project is designed to enhance power transmission capacity across several regions of Karnataka and includes the establishment of a 400/220/33 kV GIS substation at Hampapura. The scheme also encompasses approximately 299 kilometres of 400 kV double-circuit transmission lines between Jagalur and Kadakola, around 125 kilometres of 220 kV double-circuit lines connecting Hampapura with Nagamangala, Maddur, Tubinakere and Huygonahalli, along with the LILO of the 400 kV DC Quad Moose line from Jagalur-Kadakola to the proposed 765/400 kV CN Halli station and associated infrastructure.

Simultaneously, Mekhali Power Transmission Limited was transferred to Shree Dutta Tiwari, Vice President (Contracts), Dilip Buildcon Limited. This project includes the development of a 400/220/33 kV AIS substation at Mekhali and approximately 320 kilometres of 400 kV double-circuit transmission lines linking Mekhali with Yalawar and Dhoni. In addition, around 130 kilometres of 220 kV double-circuit transmission lines will connect Mekhali with Kuduchi, Aqueus and Mahilangapura. The project also includes the LILO of the 220 kV Mekhali–Chikodi-Mughalkod transmission line and other associated works.

Both projects have an implementation timeline of 24 months and are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing grid reliability, facilitating power evacuation and meeting the growing electricity demand across Karnataka. The successful transfer of these SPVs marks another milestone in RECPDCL’s ongoing efforts to promote efficient and competitive development of India’s power transmission infrastructure through the TBCB framework.
