By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| Bhopal: In a significant recognition of literary excellence and social documentation, the Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Akademi has selected renowned author and senior administrator Dr. Abhay Arvind Bedekar’s acclaimed work, Corona Yoddha Ki Sangharsh Gatha, for the prestigious State-Level Rajendra Anuragi Award in the Diary category for the calendar year 2024.

Currently serving as Additional Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Dr. Bedekar has earned appreciation not only for his administrative acumen but also for his meaningful contributions to literature. The award underscores his ability to chronicle contemporary events with sensitivity, authenticity and literary depth.

The announcement was made by the Sahitya Akademi, Madhya Pradesh Sanskriti Parishad, under the Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh, as part of its annual declaration of All India and State Literary Awards. The recognition places Dr. Bedekar among the distinguished literary voices whose works have made a notable contribution to Hindi literature and contemporary documentation.

According to Dr. Vikas Dave, Director of the Sahitya Akademi, winners of the State Literary Awards will receive a cash prize of Rs. 51,000, along with a shawl, memento, citation and ceremonial honours. While most categories witnessed the joint selection of two outstanding works by the jury, the Diary category stands out this year, as *Corona Yoddha Ki Sangharsh Gatha* is the sole work selected for the honour.

This distinction further highlights the significance and uniqueness of Dr. Bedekar’s literary contribution. The work vividly captures the extraordinary experiences, challenges and sacrifices of frontline warriors during the COVID-19 pandemic—one of the most difficult periods in recent history. Through a diary-style narrative, the book documents the courage, resilience and human spirit displayed by healthcare workers, administrators, police personnel and countless others who stood at the forefront of the battle against the pandemic.

More than a personal account, the book serves as an important social document that preserves the memories of a defining chapter in modern India’s history. Its detailed observations and heartfelt storytelling provide readers with an intimate understanding of the unprecedented circumstances faced by those who worked tirelessly to safeguard public health and welfare.

The selection of Dr. Bedekar’s work for the Rajendra Anuragi Award has been widely welcomed by literary circles, intellectuals and admirers across Madhya Pradesh. The honour is being viewed as recognition not only of an individual author but also of the enduring importance of documenting human experiences during times of crisis.

The Department of Culture is expected to organise a formal ceremony in the near future to felicitate the selected authors and present the awards. For Dr. Abhay Bedekar, the recognition marks another milestone in a career that successfully bridges public service and literary creativity, demonstrating how literature can preserve history, inspire society and honour the spirit of those who rise to meet extraordinary challenges.
