By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM|New Delhi/Raipur:Sundarraj P, a 2003-batch IPS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on deputation basis, marking a significant elevation for the seasoned police officer known for his extensive experience in internal security and anti-insurgency operations.
The appointment was approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, which has requested the Government of Chhattisgarh to relieve the officer at the earliest to enable him to assume his new responsibilities at the Centre. He will serve as Inspector General in the NIA against an existing vacancy under the standard terms and conditions of central deputation.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Sundarraj P has earned a reputation as one of the country’s most capable field officers. A member of the 2003 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), Chhattisgarh cadre, he has held several crucial assignments in the state, particularly in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism. His leadership in challenging operational environments, especially in the Bastar region, has been widely acknowledged for strengthening security mechanisms and enhancing coordination among various agencies.
Known for his hands-on approach to policing, Sundarraj P has played an important role in counter-insurgency operations, intelligence gathering, and community outreach initiatives aimed at restoring confidence in governance in remote and conflict-affected regions. His extensive experience in dealing with complex security challenges has made him one of the most respected officers in the Chhattisgarh Police.
The National Investigation Agency, India’s premier counter-terrorism investigation body, is responsible for probing terrorism-related offences, terror financing, organized criminal networks with national security implications, and other serious crimes affecting the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. The agency works closely with state police forces and central security organizations in safeguarding national security.
Sundarraj P’s appointment as Inspector General in the NIA is seen as a recognition of his operational expertise, leadership qualities, and proven track record in handling sensitive security matters.
