Income Tax Department Celebrates 167th Income Tax Day with Commitment to Nation Building

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| Bhopal, July 24, 2026: The Income Tax Department commemorated the 167th Income Tax Day with a dignified ceremony at the New Income Tax Building, Arera Hills, Bhopal, reaffirming its commitment to transparent tax administration, taxpayer awareness, and nation-building.

The event was attended by Mona Mohanty, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh), and Bijoy Kumar Panda, Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), Bhopal, along with senior officers and officials of the department.

The celebrations commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the presentation of a video message from Ravi Agrawal, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The message underscored the importance of voluntary tax compliance and the evolving role of the Income Tax Department in strengthening India’s economic growth.

Addressing the gathering, Mona Mohanty highlighted that paying taxes is not merely a statutory obligation but a meaningful contribution to national development. She emphasized that responsible and honest taxpayers form the foundation of a strong economy and play a crucial role in realizing the vision of a developed India.

Ram Kumar Yadav, Commissioner of Income Tax (Administration), presented an overview of the department’s major achievements and noteworthy initiatives during the past year, showcasing its continued efforts to improve taxpayer services, enhance compliance, and strengthen administrative efficiency.

Recognizing excellence beyond administration, the department honoured two of its distinguished sportspersons. Shikha Chauhan was felicitated for her outstanding achievements in Kayak Slalom, while Shivraj Sankhla was recognized for his remarkable performance in shooting at various international competitions, bringing laurels to both the department and the nation.

As part of the Income Tax Day celebrations, prizes and certificates were awarded to students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Bhopal, for their exceptional performances in poster-making and elocution competitions organized to promote tax awareness among young citizens. The school was also presented with a memento in recognition of its valuable support in organizing the competitions and a tree plantation drive.

The programme concluded with vibrant cultural performances, reflecting the spirit of unity and public service. Speakers on the occasion highlighted the Income Tax Department’s pivotal role in nation-building, the significance of honest tax compliance, and the need to foster greater public awareness about taxation. The celebration served as a reminder that a transparent, accountable, and citizen-centric tax system remains essential to India’s inclusive growth and economic progress.
