Rupak Kumar Dutta

Rupak K Dutta is 1981 batch IPS officer of Karnataka cadre.Dutta was one of the strongest contenders for the CBI chief post. Presently he is Special Secretary (Internal Security) in Home Ministry against a newly-created post.He graduated from IIT Kanpur and also holds an MBA degree from Swinburne University, Australia.

It is widly beleived in bureaucratic circle that is a thorough professional and he is regarded as one of the most hardworking and upright officers in the country. He has been honoured with the Indian Police Medal and President’s Police Medal. Dutta has served in CBI at all levels right from SP to Special Director for 18 years and as of today he is the most experienced CBI officer in the country.Amongst other sensitive cases, he has also headed the 2G and Coalgate investigations.

All his career has been non-controversial and he is discreet in doing his job and carrying out instructions as per the requirements of the government.
