UN Seeks Senior Global Leadership for Mine Action and Police

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The United Nations has opened nominations for the prestigious position of Assistant Secretary-General, Office for Mine Action and Police (OMAP), under the Department of Peace Operations, at UN Headquarters in New York. The appointment offers an important opportunity for an experienced international or national leader to shape global policies concerning UN policing and mine action.

The Assistant Secretary-General will report directly to the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations and head OMAP, which oversees the United Nations Police Division and the United Nations Mine Action Service. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership, policy direction and operational oversight for police and mine action activities supporting UN peace operations and other mandated missions.

The responsibilities include advising senior UN leadership, developing strategic policies, managing resources and multidisciplinary teams, supporting field missions, coordinating with Member States and strengthening partnerships with regional and international organisations. The officer may also participate in senior-level meetings and advise on leadership appointments within UN police and mine action missions.

The vacancy has been circulated in India by the Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Personnel and Training among eligible Joint Secretary and Director-level officers. Candidates must have at least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in international peace and security, public administration, diplomacy or related fields.
