Dhanbad, August 31, 2026: Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) is set to receive renewed focus on its operational priorities, major projects and rehabilitation initiatives during the two-day official visit of Tarun Kapoor, Advisor to the Prime Minister, to Dhanbad and adjoining areas from August 31 to September 1, 2026.

On August 31, BCCL CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal warmly welcomed Tarun Kapoor at Durgapur Airport. The occasion was attended by Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan and SSP Prabhat Kumar, underlining the importance of the visit and the coordinated approach towards addressing key issues concerning the coal belt.

During his two-day visit, Kapoor is scheduled to chair a comprehensive review meeting of BCCL’s operations and key initiatives at Koyla Bhawan. The review is expected to provide an opportunity to assess the progress of important projects, operational priorities and initiatives aimed at strengthening coal production and addressing challenges in the region.

The visit will also take Kapoor to several strategically important BCCL projects. These include the Moonidih Coal Bed Methane Project and the Moonidih Longwall Project at XVI Seam. The projects represent significant technological and operational interventions in one of the country’s important coking coal-producing regions.

Another key part of the programme is a visit to the ENA Fire Project in Kusunda Area. The engagement is particularly significant given the continuing focus on fire-affected and high-risk areas of the Jharia coalfield. Kapoor is also scheduled to interact with families residing at high-risk sites, providing an opportunity to understand their concerns and examine the progress of measures aimed at ensuring their safety and rehabilitation.

The Jharia Master Plan will form another important component of the visit. Kapoor is scheduled to visit the Belgaria and Karmatand rehabilitation sites, where rehabilitation and resettlement efforts are being undertaken for affected families. These field visits will be followed by a review involving concerned stakeholders to assess the implementation of the Master Plan and the progress of rehabilitation-related initiatives.

The two-day programme reflects an integrated approach towards the future of the Jharia coalfield, combining operational efficiency with mine safety, rehabilitation and the welfare of communities living in vulnerable areas.

For BCCL, the visit provides an important platform to showcase its ongoing projects and initiatives while receiving strategic inputs on operational performance, technological interventions, rehabilitation and the broader challenges facing the coalfield.

The focus on both major mining projects and the Jharia Master Plan highlights the interconnected nature of development in the region. While strengthening coal production remains vital to BCCL’s mandate, addressing mine fires, subsidence and the rehabilitation of affected families remains equally important for creating a safer and more sustainable future for the Jharia region.

The visit is therefore expected to provide a comprehensive review of BCCL’s operational landscape and the progress of rehabilitation initiatives, while reinforcing coordination among the coal company, district administration and other stakeholders.
