BILASPUR: Teachers occupy a unique place in the journey of nation-building, shaping not only the academic capabilities of students but also their character, values and outlook towards life. This message resonated strongly at the Dronacharya Sangam Teacher Felicitation Ceremony organised at SECL DAV School, Bilaspur, where Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka highlighted the enduring influence of teachers in shaping the future of society and the nation.

The Governor attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest and paid tribute to the rich legacy of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, eminent educationist and former President of India. The programme began with the garlanding of his portrait by the Governor and other dignitaries, recalling his invaluable contribution to education and his vision of teachers as central to the development of a progressive society.

The ceremony brought together teachers from DAV schools functioning across various operational areas of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). Educators were felicitated for their dedication, commitment and contribution towards nurturing young minds.

Addressing the gathering, Deka said that student life represents a crucial phase in an individual’s development and teachers play a decisive role during this formative period. Beyond textbooks and classrooms, teachers help students develop knowledge, personality, discipline and values that remain with them throughout their lives.

He emphasised that success has no shortcuts and urged students to cultivate the habits of consistent hard work, discipline and dedication. Advising them to overcome procrastination and laziness, he stressed that learning should remain a lifelong process. The willingness to acquire new knowledge and learn from every experience, he said, is essential for personal growth and meaningful achievement.

The Governor also encouraged students to develop a strong sense of social responsibility. Instead of constantly asking what society has given them, he urged them to reflect on what they can contribute to society. He called upon young people to use their education, knowledge and abilities for the larger public good and to play a constructive role in the progress of the nation.

The Dronacharya Sangam ceremony thus emerged as more than a felicitation programme. It provided an opportunity to recognise the often understated contribution of teachers who work continuously to shape the next generation. Their role extends beyond imparting lessons, as they influence attitudes, build confidence, encourage curiosity and help students develop the values required to become responsible citizens.

The event was attended by Commissioner, Bilaspur Division Sunil Jain; Director (Human Resources), SECL Biranchi Das; Chief Vigilance Officer, SECL Himanshu Jain; Principal, SECL DAV Bilaspur K. Parthipan; ARO, DAV Bilaspur Region Maulika Mukherjee; and Principal, SECL DAV Korba Suchitra Sharma. Collector Sanjay Agrawal, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajnesh Singh, senior officials of SECL and representatives of the District Administration were also present.

The ceremony reinforced a timeless message: while infrastructure and institutions provide the framework for development, it is teachers who help shape the individuals capable of carrying the nation forward. By recognising their contribution and inspiring students to embrace hard work, lifelong learning and social responsibility, the Dronacharya Sangam celebrated education as a powerful instrument of nation-building.
