Govt Approval Mandatory for Use of Indian Patent Office Logo
Sep 13th, 2026 4:30 pm | By ThenewsmanofIndia.com | Category: LATEST NEWSNew Delhi: Prior approval from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is mandatory for the use of the official logo of the Indian Patent Office (IPO) in any medium, according to a public notice issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
The notice issued by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) stated that no person, business entity, digital platform, trademark or patent agent, or legal practitioner can display, reproduce or otherwise use the official logo, emblem or design of the Indian Patent Office without obtaining prior government approval.
The CGPDTM has observed that various individuals, agencies, corporate entities, online legal technology platforms and unauthorised service providers have been using the official IPO logo on websites, social media accounts, marketing materials, stationery and paid digital advertisements without authorisation.
The notice clarified that the Indian Patent Office logo is an official government identifier representing the statutory authority functioning under DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Its unauthorised use is therefore not permitted.
