By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| In a notable step towards strengthening India’s clean energy future, OIL Green Energy Limited (OGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Oil India Limited (OIL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) on 20th April 2026 for collaboration in the development, procurement, and supply of renewable energy, with special emphasis on group captive requirements.

This strategic partnership marks an important chapter in the journey of sustainable industrial growth and reflects the increasing commitment of India’s leading public sector energy enterprises toward green transformation.

The MoU was formally signed by Rajeev Kumar Tamuli, General Manager, OGEL, and Rupam Kumar Sarma, General Manager (Technical Services), NRL, in the august presence of CMD, OIL and Chairman, NRL; Managing Director, NRL; Directors of OIL and NRL; CEO, OGEL; along with other senior officials from both organisations.

The agreement is not merely a business collaboration—it represents a visionary alignment of goals aimed at reducing carbon footprints and accelerating the adoption of renewable energy across operational ecosystems. By focusing on group captive energy requirements, both organisations are setting the foundation for long-term energy security, cost efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

OGEL has been established with a clear mission to drive OIL’s renewable energy ambitions and create a strong green energy portfolio that complements the company’s traditional hydrocarbon business. This collaboration with NRL is expected to significantly diversify and scale up OGEL’s renewable energy initiatives, enabling the development of cleaner and more efficient power solutions for industrial operations.

For Oil India Limited, the initiative is closely aligned with its ambitious target of achieving net zero emissions by 2040—well ahead of the national target. It also reinforces the company’s leadership role in the energy transition space, where sustainability is becoming central to business strategy and national development.

At a broader level, the partnership contributes meaningfully to the Government of India’s vision of achieving net zero emissions by 2070. Public sector enterprises like OIL and NRL are playing a crucial role in ensuring that economic growth and environmental stewardship move hand in hand.

Renewable energy is no longer an alternative—it is a necessity. Strategic collaborations such as this MoU demonstrate how institutional leadership, technological planning, and environmental responsibility can converge to create impactful change.

As India moves steadily toward a greener future, the OGEL-NRL partnership stands as a powerful example of how corporate vision and national priorities can work together to build a sustainable tomorrow. This is not just an agreement on paper—it is a commitment to transformation, innovation, and responsible growth for generations to come.
