ACC Elevates Two Senior IRS Officers as Members of CBIC

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| In a significant move aimed at strengthening leadership at the apex level of indirect tax administration, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of two senior Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) officers as Members of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

Sanjay Mangal, presently serving as Chief Commissioner of the Meerut GST & Central Excise Zone, has been elevated to the Board as Member, with his tenure scheduled to run until January 2027. Known for his extensive field experience in GST and indirect tax administration, his appointment is expected to contribute to policy execution and operational efficiency within the Board.

Abhai Kumar Srivastav, currently heading the Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), has also been appointed as Member, CBIC. As chief of the country’s premier anti-smuggling and economic intelligence agency, he has overseen several high-profile enforcement and intelligence-led operations. His tenure on the Board will continue until February 2028.

The appointments assume importance at a time when CBIC is focusing on strengthening compliance mechanisms, enhancing enforcement capabilities, and streamlining indirect tax administration amid evolving trade and taxation dynamics. The induction of officers with strong administrative and investigative backgrounds is expected to further reinforce the Board’s strategic functioning.
