The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved one-year extensions in the services of Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, ensuring continuity in the country’s top administrative and internal security leadership.
In a significant decision aimed at ensuring continuity in governance, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved one-year extensions in the services of two of the Government of India’s senior-most civil servants. Dr. T.V. Somanathan, IAS (TN:1987), will continue as Cabinet Secretary for a further period of one year beyond August 30, 2026.
The ACC has also approved a one-year extension in the service of Govind Mohan, IAS (SK:1989), as Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, beyond August 22, 2026, up to August 22, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The extension has been granted in relaxation of the provisions of FR 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
The twin decisions ensure continuity at the helm of the Cabinet Secretariat and the Ministry of Home Affairs, two of the most crucial institutions in the Union Government.
