In a powerful statement of India’s economic resilience and the efficiency of its tax administration, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for April 2025 have reached a record ₹2.36 lakh crore. This represents a significant 12.6% increase over the gross collection of ₹2.10 lakh crore in April 2024, signaling a strong start to the fiscal year.

Net GST collections stood at ₹2.09 lakh crore for April 2025, reflecting a 9.1% growth compared to ₹1.92 lakh crore in the same month last year. The continued upward trajectory in GST revenues is indicative of a robust economic base and improving tax compliance across the country.

“These figures showcase the resilience of the Indian economy and the effectiveness of cooperative federalism,” said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, underlining the joint efforts of the Centre and states in strengthening India’s tax system.

The Finance Minister expressed the government’s “deepest gratitude to the taxpayers whose contributions and faith in the GST architecture drive the nation’s progress.” She noted that these contributions reflect a shared national commitment to building a *Viksit Bharat*.

Extending her congratulations, Sitharaman said, “Sincere regards to the dedicated efforts of the Finance Ministers of all states and state GST authorities, who remain equal partners in India’s GST framework.” She also acknowledged the “sincere efforts of the field formations of CBIC,” crediting them for their role in achieving this record performance.

The record-breaking GST collections for April 2025 are a testament not only to India’s strengthening economy but also to the power of collaborative governance, responsive policymaking, and the unwavering spirit of the Indian taxpayer.
