By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| January 12, 2026, Bengaluru: From Everest to Aconcagua, Aritra Roy Scripts History in South America.

Indian mountaineering continues to scale new heights as Aritra Roy successfully summited Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest peak outside Asia, standing tall at 6,967.15 metres above mean sea level. The remarkable solo ascent, fully sponsored by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), adds another historic chapter to Roy’s ambitious Seven Summits challenge, following his earlier conquest of Mount Everest.

Reaching the summit on January 7, 2026, at 2:00 pm local time, Roy achieved the feat well ahead of schedule after an arduous 44-kilometre trek through one of the world’s most unforgiving terrains. Battling extreme sub-zero temperatures plunging to minus 40 degrees Celsius, along with relentless snowstorms and blizzards, he demonstrated extraordinary endurance and mental resilience. Roy spent about 45 minutes at the summit, absorbing the magnitude of the achievement before beginning his descent.

Mount Aconcagua, often referred to as the ‘Stone Sentinel’ of the Andes, is notorious for its harsh weather, thin air and unpredictable conditions. Roy’s successful climb under such circumstances stands as a testament to meticulous preparation, adaptability and unwavering determination.

Congratulating Roy on the achievement, HAL Chairman and Managing Director D K Sunil described the summit as an inspiring story of focus and perseverance. He said the organisation was proud to support the expedition and lauded Roy for setting a powerful example of resilience and commitment, wishing him continued success in future endeavours.

Reflecting on the climb, Roy termed the ascent a deeply humbling experience that tested every aspect of his physical and mental strength. He expressed gratitude to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for its support, stating that the journey demanded constant adaptation and trust in one’s instincts to overcome the toughest moments. Dedicating the summit to dreamers and achievers, Roy said the accomplishment belongs to everyone who dares to aim high and works relentlessly towards their goals.

With Aconcagua now conquered, Aritra Roy’s journey across the world’s highest peaks continues to inspire, reinforcing India’s growing presence in global mountaineering and the power of determination backed by institutional support.
