Avinash Lavania appointed Director in Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| New Delhi: The central government has approved the appointment of Avinash Lavania, IAS (Madhya Pradesh cadre, 2009 batch), as Director in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Delhi, under the Central Staffing Scheme. His tenure will be for five years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders.

The appointment order states that Lavania should be relieved of his current responsibilities immediately to enable him to take up his new role in Delhi. As per the ACC’s guidelines, officers appointed under the Central Staffing Scheme must join within three weeks of the order; failing to do so may lead to initiation of debarment proceedings.

Lavania brings significant administrative experience to the position. An IAS officer known for his field-oriented approach, he has held several key roles in Madhya Pradesh. He has served as Collector of Bhopal and Hoshangabad, Commissioner of Bhopal Municipal Corporation and Ujjain Municipal Corporation, Director of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Protection, and Managing Director of the MP State Warehouse Corporation. He has also handled responsibilities in urban development, tax administration and infrastructure sectors, including assignments with the MP Road Development Corporation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lavania was noted for proactive management strategies as Bhopal Collector, focusing on containment planning and public-health coordination. His tenure in municipal bodies earned recognition for initiatives in sanitation, urban planning and service delivery improvement.

Born on 25 October 1983, he is regarded as a competent and energetic administrator with experience across both district administration and state-level policy implementation.

Lavania’s move to the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare places him at the centre of policy execution in one of India’s most critical sectors, where his administrative record is expected to contribute to programme delivery and institutional strengthening.
