In a major step towards deepening financial inclusion across the country, banks are conducting a nation-wide campaign at the Gram Panchayat level from July 1 to September 30, 2025. The initiative aims to achieve full saturation of Financial Inclusion (FI) schemes, alongside facilitating re-KYC of bank accounts. The drive is also being used to raise awareness about unclaimed deposits and provide a platform for grievance redressal.
As of August 11, 2025, more than 1.41 lakh camps have been organised across rural India, resulting in the completion of re-KYC for over 35 lakh accounts. The Government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) are closely monitoring the progress to ensure the campaign meets its objectives.
To give further impetus to the initiative, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra visited a camp at Gozaria Gram Panchayat in Mehsana, Gujarat, on August 11. Accompanied by the MD & CEO of Bank of Baroda, the RBI’s Regional Director, and senior officials from various banks, the Governor interacted with customers, business correspondents, Self Help Groups, and representatives from participating banks. Emphasising the need for stronger collaboration between banks, the RBI, and local communities, he urged greater outreach to ensure every citizen has access to essential banking services and the benefits of government-backed FI schemes.
Earlier, Deputy Governor M Rajeshwar Rao visited a similar camp at Ormanjhi Gram Panchayat in Ranchi on August 8, where he reviewed the re-KYC progress and engaged with customers and banking representatives. On August 9, Deputy Governor Swaminathan J attended a camp at Thirukandalam Gram Panchayat in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. The event saw the participation of MD & CEOs and Executive Directors from Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank, as well as the District Collector, RBI officials, and senior bankers.
During their respective visits, the Deputy Governors stressed the critical role of KYC in ensuring uninterrupted and secure banking services. They urged customers to keep their KYC details updated and to utilise these camps to enrol in various social security schemes and register grievances for prompt resolution.
The Gram Panchayat-level camps will continue until September 30, 2025, and customers are encouraged to take full advantage of the services available — from re-KYC updates and scheme enrolments to resolving pending banking issues — bringing the vision of universal financial access closer to reality.
