The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of 37 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers for Secretary and Secretary-equivalent positions at the Centre.

This empanelment includes 27 officers from the 1994 batch, marking their first eligibility for Secretary-level positions. Notably, among these is Atish Chandra, currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The officers represent 14 cadres, including Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, five officers each from the 1992 and 1993 batches have been empanelled for Secretary or Secretary-equivalent roles. This development underscores the ACC’s commitment to strengthening administrative leadership at the central level.

Empanelment is a critical process in the Indian bureaucracy, determining officers’ eligibility for senior positions based on their experience, performance, and suitability.
