By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| In a notable recognition of its commitment towards sustainable community development and social responsibility, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) has been conferred with the prestigious GREENTECH CSR INDIA Platinum Award during the 12th CSR INDIA AWARDS 2026 held in New Delhi. The honour was awarded for CCL’s impactful Integrated Community Development Project implemented in the coal mining areas of Hazaribag.

The award acknowledges CCL’s remarkable efforts in improving the socio-economic conditions of nearly 5,000 households spread across nine neighbouring villages. Through a comprehensive and community-centric approach, the project has emerged as a model of inclusive rural transformation in mining regions.

The initiative focuses on multiple dimensions of sustainable development including pond rejuvenation, watershed management, promotion of organic farming, cattle development, encouragement of rural micro-enterprises, installation of solar-powered drinking water facilities and solar streetlights. These interventions have collectively strengthened rural livelihoods while improving environmental sustainability.

One of the most notable aspects of the project has been the active involvement and leadership of women in various development activities. Women-led participation has played a crucial role in driving self-reliance, social empowerment and community ownership of the programmes.

According to officials, the project has significantly enhanced household incomes through diversified livelihood opportunities and sustainable agricultural practices. It has also contributed to reducing distress migration from rural areas by creating local employment and income-generation avenues.

The recognition further highlights CCL’s evolving role beyond coal production, positioning the company as a responsible corporate entity committed to long-term social and environmental progress. The award reflects the growing importance of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that directly improve the quality of life in communities surrounding industrial and mining operations.
