Chhattisgarh Explores Singapore Partnership to Develop Botanical Gardens & Boost Eco-Tourism

Chhattisgarh is exploring new avenues of international cooperation in horticulture, environmental conservation, urban greening and eco-tourism, with a special focus on developing world-class green spaces and botanical gardens in the state.

In a significant step towards this vision, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, along with a high-level Chhattisgarh delegation comprising Chief Secretary Vikasheel and Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Subodh Kumar Singh, held a formal meeting with senior officials of Singapore’s renowned Gardens by the Bay.

The meeting was attended by Jason Yeo, General Manager, Master Planning, and Lim Chiap Song, Director, Gardens by the Bay. Discussions focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration and drawing on Singapore’s expertise in developing sustainable, innovative and internationally acclaimed green infrastructure.

The interaction assumes particular importance in the context of Chhattisgarh’s plans to develop botanical gardens in Nava Raipur and strengthen green spaces across the state. The experience and best practices of Gardens by the Bay could provide valuable insights into modern landscape planning, horticultural development, biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism.

Highlighting the potential benefits of the proposed cooperation, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed confidence that the learnings from Singapore would help transform the state’s urban green infrastructure while opening up new opportunities in tourism and employment.

The initiative is expected to enhance Chhattisgarh’s appeal as a destination for nature-based tourism, attract more visitors and create employment opportunities for hundreds of people through tourism-related activities and associated services.

The engagement also reflects Chhattisgarh’s growing emphasis on international partnerships to accelerate development, promote environmental sustainability and bring global best practices to its infrastructure and tourism sectors.

Nominated by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Chhattisgarh is proud to participate in the inaugural programme, providing an important platform to showcase the state’s development vision and explore international cooperation.

With its rich biodiversity, natural landscapes and emerging urban centres, Chhattisgarh has significant potential to develop into a leading destination for eco-tourism. The proposed collaboration with Singapore could be an important step towards realising that potential while balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility.
