By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM|Chhattisgarh is witnessing a significant transformation in its sporting landscape, with the state government placing renewed emphasis on nurturing talent, creating opportunities and recognising sporting excellence. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, sports is emerging as an important avenue for youth empowerment, career development and national recognition.
The State Sports Awards Ceremony-2026, held at Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, reflected this growing commitment towards the state’s sporting fraternity. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai honoured outstanding players and coaches and extended his best wishes for their continued success.
A total of 126 outstanding players and coaches from the years 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 were conferred with State Sports Awards. In addition, 540 other players were provided cash incentives. Collectively, 666 players and coaches received awards and incentive amounts totalling ₹1 crore 74 lakh 19 thousand.
The recognition is more than a reward for past achievements. It represents an assurance that sporting talent in Chhattisgarh will receive the encouragement and institutional support needed to progress further.
Chhattisgarh has a rich pool of sporting talent, particularly among its young population. However, talent can flourish only when athletes have access to adequate resources, training facilities, competitions and financial assistance. The state government’s initiatives are aimed at addressing these requirements and ensuring that promising players do not fall behind because of limited resources or opportunities.
A provision of ₹100 crore for the Chief Minister Sports Excellence Mission marks an important step in this direction. The mission is expected to strengthen the ecosystem for high-performing athletes and provide them with better opportunities to sharpen their skills and compete at higher levels.
Another significant development is the opening of avenues for government service appointments for 156 outstanding sportspersons of the state. Such opportunities can provide athletes with greater financial security and confidence while encouraging young people to consider sports as a serious and sustainable career option.
The government’s approach also extends to the grassroots. The Bastar Olympics, organised for the past two years, has become an important platform for discovering and encouraging sporting talent in the region. In its first year, more than one lakh youths participated. In the second year, participation rose dramatically to 3.91 lakh.
The remarkable response demonstrates the enthusiasm for sports among young people in Bastar and highlights the potential of grassroots competitions to identify talented athletes from areas that may otherwise remain outside the mainstream sporting network.
The growing success of Chhattisgarh’s players at the national level is an encouraging sign of the state’s emerging sporting potential. The journey, however, is not limited to winning medals. It is about creating a culture in which children and young people are encouraged to participate, identify their abilities, receive professional guidance and aspire to represent the state and the country.
The combination of recognition through State Sports Awards, financial support under the Chief Minister Sports Excellence Mission, employment opportunities for outstanding sportspersons and the expanding reach of the Bastar Olympics is helping create a stronger foundation for the state’s sporting future.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai’s vision of providing opportunities, respect and a new identity to sporting talent is gradually translating into a broader sporting movement across Chhattisgarh.
With sustained investment, grassroots participation and institutional encouragement, the state has the potential to transform its vast pool of sporting talent into a new generation of champions who can shine on national and international platforms.
For Chhattisgarh, the sporting journey is no longer simply about discovering talent. It is about creating the right conditions for that talent to flourish, ensuring that achievement is recognised and giving young athletes the confidence to dream of reaching the highest levels of sport.
