New bridges and the Uran Bypass to improve access to Navi Mumbai International Airport and strengthen planned urban growth
In a significant step towards strengthening infrastructure and accelerating planned urban development in the Navi Mumbai region, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated key connectivity projects and performed the bhoomipujan of development works in the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) at Shirdhon, Panvel. The programme also witnessed the distribution of property cards to landholders, marking an important initiative towards facilitating land ownership documentation.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and other distinguished dignitaries. Ashwin Mudgal, IAS, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO), also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of infrastructure development in shaping the region’s future.
The inauguration of **SBR-9 (Stilt Bridge), BR-4, BR-5 and the Uran Bypass Bridge** represents an important milestone in improving regional connectivity. These projects are expected to facilitate smoother, faster and more convenient travel towards the Navi Mumbai International Airport, while helping reduce travel bottlenecks and improving access across the surrounding areas.
With the airport emerging as a major infrastructure asset for Maharashtra, efficient road connectivity will be crucial to supporting passenger movement, commercial activity, logistics and investment. The newly inaugurated infrastructure is expected to contribute to a more integrated transport network, strengthening links between developing urban areas and key economic destinations.
Equally significant is the emphasis on planned development in the NAINA region. As the area evolves alongside the Navi Mumbai International Airport, coordinated infrastructure creation, improved accessibility and systematic urban planning will be essential to ensuring sustainable growth. The bhoomipujan of development works signals continued attention to building the supporting infrastructure required for this transformation.
The distribution of property cards to landholders added an important citizen-focused dimension to the programme. Such initiatives can help improve documentation and provide greater clarity regarding property ownership, subject to the applicable records and legal provisions.
CIDCO, as a key planning and development agency in Maharashtra, has an important role in coordinating infrastructure and urban growth around Navi Mumbai. Under the leadership of its Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Ashwin Mudgal, the corporation’s ongoing development initiatives are central to the region’s evolving infrastructure landscape.
The inauguration of the four connectivity projects, alongside the launch of development works and distribution of property cards, reflects a comprehensive approach to regional development—combining transport infrastructure, planned urbanisation and land-related facilitation.
As Navi Mumbai International Airport strengthens the region’s economic prospects, these initiatives are expected to give fresh momentum to NAINA’s development and support the emergence of a better-connected, more accessible and systematically planned urban region.
