CWC office adjudged ‘cleanest’ during Water Resources Ministry’s Swachhta Week

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation observed Swachhta week from March 16 at the conclusion of which it came up with a Booklet on various activities. Releasing the Booklet, Ministers of State Arjun Ram Meghwal and Satya Pal Singh said the activities of the Ministry went beyond “symbolism’’. In a Cleanliness Inspection of all offices attached to the Ministry, the Central Water Commission was adjudged the “Cleanest Organisation’’. The Ministry worked on sustainable and long-term activities that included installation of compost machines for utilisation of dry biodegradable waste, use of colour coded dustbins for proper waste disposal, generation of mass awareness by organising group cleanliness activities with local populations, events like swachhta sandesh rallies, educating school children through lectures, painting and essay competitions, chaupals, cultural events, plantation activities and awareness campaign on `conservation of water’ through social media platforms.

The Ministry emphasised on cleanliness of water bodies including ponds, lakes, canals, river banks across the country. As many as 100 water bodies were cleaned through “shramdaan’’ by staff and officers.

The National Mission for Clean Ganga organised 34 major events across Ganga Basin States of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal with the opening and closing ceremonies being organised at Hardwar and Allahabad respectively.

Special Yamuna Cleanliness drive was also organised on March 27 at seven different locations on the banks of Yamuna.
