DEA invites applications for key economic post in Indian Embassy, Washington DC

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has invited applications for the post of First Secretary (Economic) / Counsellor (Economic) at the Embassy of India in Washington DC, USA. The position, at Deputy Secretary/Director level, falls under the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) and is proposed to be filled in place of Vivek Chaudhary, IES (2011).

As per the notification, eligible officers must have completed at least two years of service at the Centre under the Central Staffing Scheme and should possess a “Very Good” service record, with preference for those rated “Outstanding.” Officers should not be over 54 years of age and must be clear from vigilance angle. Additionally, candidates should not have prior foreign posting in a similar capacity and must not be on training, study leave, or long leave.

The post requires officers with experience in key economic domains such as trade, commerce, industry, finance, foreign investment, export promotion, and international development cooperation. Preference will also be given to those who have previously worked in the Department of Economic Affairs.

Nominations of willing and eligible officers are to be forwarded through the proper channel along with requisite clearances, including cadre and vigilance clearance, detailed bio-data, and APAR dossiers of the last five years.

The last date for submission of applications is May 10, 2026.
