Dept. of Fishing Boat Operators applauded Chairperson, VPA, assistance

A major fire accident occurred on 19th November 2023 at Fishing Harbour where 29/30 fishing boats were fully burnt/damaged/ gutted, and around 18 fishing boats were partially damaged, the wrecks of the fishing boats got inundated in the waters of Bay of Bengal.
Visakhapatnam Port Authority immediately has taken action duly deploying heavy duty cranes of 150 MT in salvaging the sunken fishing boats. Salvage of fishing boats was monitored with expertise in the salvage field duly engaging under sea divers, cutting the wreck, lifting from the waters etc., duly preventing any pilferage or mishaps in coordination with the State Government Fisheries Department in the presence of Fishing Boat Operators Association, State Police and VPA.
The reclaiming operations is a challenging activity which commenced on 18th December, 2023 and the exercise was successfully accomplished within a record time of 10 days i.e., on 28th December, 2023 duly incurring an amount of Rs.50.00 lakhs, under the able guidance of M. Angamuthu, IAS, Chairperson, Visakhaptnam Port Authority.
The State Fisheries Department, Fishing Boat Operators Association and the Fishing Community applauded Chairperson, VPA and his Team for timely assistance in restoration of Fishing Harbour.
