(THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM) Bengaluru: Dr. M.A. Saleem, a 1993 batch IPS officer, has officially taken over as the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police (DG\&IGP) of Karnataka. He becomes the 43rd officer to assume the top post in the state police and will serve a one-year tenure until his retirement in June 2026.

Bringing with him a reputation for discipline, integrity, and hands-on leadership, Dr. Saleem began his tenure on a note of quiet efficiency. Departing from the usual tradition of ceremonial greetings and formal ‘call-on’ visits, he conducted a virtual introductory session with officers across the state, urging them to remain at their posts and focus on their responsibilities.

“There’s work to be done,” he said, setting a tone of urgency and commitment. His message was clear: time is valuable, and duty comes first.

In his first interaction with the media, Dr. Saleem stated that he would continue the positive initiatives of his predecessor while placing greater emphasis on transparency and a victim-centric approach in policing. “While solving crime is important, we must also care for the victims. Their rights and dignity should be at the centre of our response,” he said.

Colleagues describe him as a leader who leads by example. As Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Bengaluru, he was known for being on the ground, especially during crises. His proactive approach and no-frills leadership have earned him respect across the ranks.

With Dr. Saleem at the helm, the Karnataka Police is poised for a phase of dedicated, responsive, and people-focused policing.
