In a major milestone for India’s energy infrastructure, Engineers India Limited (EIL), serving as Project Management Consultant (PMC), has played a pivotal role in the successful berthing and discharge of GAIL’s LNG vessel at the Dabhol LNG Terminal on June 2, 2025. This marks the commissioning of a state-of-the-art breakwater facility, for GAIL (India) Limited and executed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T). This 2.3 km-long Island Rubble Mound Breakwater, constructed using over 15,500 indigenously developed ACCROPODE™ blocks and placed with 3D ECHOSCOPE® technology for precision and integrity, enables year-round operations at the terminal. Reinforced with one million cubic meters of boulders in triple-layered formation, the structure ensures durability against extreme marine conditions and has officially transformed the terminal into an all-weather port, as declared by the NSPC. Despite a limited construction window of just 5–6 months, the project was delivered with world-class engineering finesse. EIL’s role as PMC was instrumental in coordinating the complex engineering, environmental clearances and execution phases, ensuring seamless delivery of this critical infrastructure. The upgraded Dabhol LNG Terminal, with a regasification capacity of 5 MMTPA, is expected to enhance India’s energy resilience by significantly improving vessel accessibility and ensuring uninterrupted LNG supply during the challenging southwest monsoon season.CMD GAIL, Sandeep Kumar Gupta, was present at the milestone event, underscoring the collaborative success of all stakeholders. This achievement represents a proud moment for India’s energy sector and a testament to the capability and commitment of EIL, GAIL and L&T in driving infrastructure excellence.
