On 27 December 2025, Praveen Kumar, Managing Director, undertook a comprehensive inspection of the New Manauri–New Durgaoti section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), underscoring operational preparedness during one of the most challenging periods for rail operations. The inspection, conducted by rail car, brought together senior officials from DFCCIL’s Corporate Office, Prayagraj and DDU units, at a time when dense winter fog coincides with the massive passenger influx for the Magh Mela.
The Magh Mela, among India’s largest religious congregations, places extraordinary pressure on the rail network, demanding seamless coordination between freight movement and passenger services. Against this backdrop, the visit focused on ensuring that the EDFC remains resilient, safe and efficient while supporting broader railway operations in the region. Emphasis was laid on strict adherence to operational protocols to manage low-visibility conditions without compromising safety or throughput.
During interactions with the Chief General Managers from Prayagraj and DDU, AGM Operations & Business Development (EDFC), DRM Prayagraj and AGM (NCR), discussions centered on optimizing train operations, strengthening maintenance practices and reinforcing safety mechanisms during fog-prone conditions. The deliberations aligned closely with Railway Board directives, highlighting the importance of balancing national freight priorities with the exceptional passenger demands of the festive season.
The inspection also served as a platform to review inter-departmental coordination across Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical and Signalling & Telecommunications, ensuring that systems and personnel are fully prepared for peak operational stress. Particular attention was given to real-time decision-making, communication protocols and contingency preparedness.
Senior officers present included Sandesh Srivastava, Executive Director (Projects); A. S. Tomar, General General Manager (S&T); A. B. Saran, Chief General Manager, Prayagraj; Ashish Mishra, General Manager (Security); Shashikant Dwivedi, General Manager (Electrical); and Mannu Prakash Dubey, AGM Operations & Business Development (EDFC), along with other senior representatives.
The inspection reaffirmed DFCCIL’s commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency and reliability on the EDFC, even amid the dual challenges of extreme weather and unprecedented passenger movement.
