General Bipin Rawat became the first CDS of the country

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has been made the first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) of the country. Recently, the Central Government has extended the tenure of Chief of Defense Staff for 3 years. Now the age of retiring Chief of Defense will be 65 years. CDS will retire from this post only after completing 65 years of age. In the first 62 years, there was a provision to retire.
The responsibility of the Chief of Defense Staff is to advise the Defense Minister in matters related to the three forces. CDS will be the Principal Military Advisor to the Defense Minister. However, in special cases related to the military services, the Chief of the three Services will continue to advise the Defense Minister as before.
The Chief of Defense Staff will work to coordinate between the three armies during the military campaign. A 4-star general rank military officer was appointed to the post of Chief of Defense Staff. The Chief of Defense Staff will be paid equal to the heads of the three armies.
It is worth noting that recently the Central Government had approved the post of Chief of Defense Staff. The Chief of Defense will be able to meet the Defense Minister directly without the approval of the Secretary of Defense.
