GoI appoints Senior Bureaucrat Sanjay Malhotra as new RBI Governor

(THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM) Amid growing speculation, the Government of India (GoI) on Monday evening officially announced the appointment of Sanjay Malhotra as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a three-year term. This follows the retirement of Shashikant Das, who concluded his tenure as RBI Governor.

Sanjay Malhotra, a seasoned bureaucrat, has held numerous pivotal roles within the GoI and is currently serving as the Revenue Secretary. A 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Rajasthan cadre, Malhotra is also an alumnus of the prestigious IIT Kanpur. His extensive experience in governance and policy-making positions him as a highly capable successor in leading the nation’s central banking institution. He is presently serving as Revenue Secretary to the Government of India. Malhotra, a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Rajasthan cadre, is an IIT Kanpur alumnus. Prior to assuming the charge of revenue secretary, he was the financial services secretary in the department of financial services (DFS). Sanjay Malhotra is 1990 Batch Rajasthan Cadre IAS Officer. Malhotra has replaced Shaktikanta Das whose six year tenure comes to an end on Tuesday (December 10, 2024). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, on Monday (December 9, 2024), has appointed Sanjay Malhotra as the new Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor for a period of three years.
