By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The Government of India has approved a six-month extension in the tenure of Gurdeep Singh as Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Limited, ensuring continuity in the leadership of the country’s largest integrated power utility.

According to the order, Gurdeep Singh will continue in the post beyond July 31, 2026, for a further period of six months, or until further orders.

Gurdeep Singh has been at the helm of NTPC since 2016 and has played a pivotal role in transforming the Maharatna PSU into a diversified energy major. Under his leadership, NTPC has significantly expanded its installed power generation capacity while accelerating its transition towards renewable energy, green hydrogen, energy storage and other clean energy initiatives.

The extension reflects the government’s confidence in his leadership at a time when India’s power sector is undergoing a major transformation to meet rising electricity demand while advancing the country’s net-zero and energy transition goals.

This is the second extension granted to Gurdeep Singh after he attained the age of superannuation, underscoring the importance of leadership continuity as NTPC continues to execute its ambitious expansion plans and strengthen its position as a key driver of India’s energy security and sustainable development.

With the latest decision, NTPC is expected to maintain strategic continuity across its ongoing conventional and renewable energy projects while supporting the nation’s growing focus on reliable, affordable and cleaner power generation.
