By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| Vadodara: Gujarat took another significant step towards strengthening India’s defence manufacturing capabilities as four leading aerospace and defence companies signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹2,550 crore during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) – Central Gujarat. The agreements were signed in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during the seminar titled “Atmanirbhar Bharat in Aerospace and Defence.”

The event was also attended by Mamta Verma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat, along with senior government officials, industry leaders and representatives of the aerospace and defence sector.

The investment commitments are expected to generate more than 4,000 new employment opportunities, further reinforcing Gujarat’s emergence as one of India’s fastest-growing destinations for aerospace and defence manufacturing.

Under the landmark agreements, indigenous production facilities will be established across Kheda, Rajkot, Vadodara and Ahmedabad for manufacturing advanced defence systems, aerospace tooling, aircraft engines and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drone systems. These projects will significantly enhance domestic production capabilities while reducing dependence on imports, in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The proposed manufacturing units will also enable faster and higher-quality production of critical defence components and spare parts, strengthening India’s defence supply chain. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for local industries to integrate with global aerospace and defence value chains while boosting exports of high-precision engineering products.

A major focus of the conference was the active participation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and start-ups in India’s defence modernisation programme. By promoting innovation-driven manufacturing and encouraging collaboration between established industries and emerging enterprises, Gujarat aims to create a robust ecosystem capable of supporting next-generation defence technologies.

The conference also highlighted the state’s commitment to developing a smart manufacturing ecosystem, leveraging advanced technologies, automation and precision engineering to position Gujarat as a national leader in defence production.

With strategic investments, world-class industrial infrastructure, investor-friendly policies and a rapidly expanding manufacturing base, Gujarat continues to play a pivotal role in advancing India’s vision of becoming self-reliant in aerospace and defence. The latest investment commitments under the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference further strengthen the state’s position as a preferred destination for high-value defence manufacturing and innovation.
