By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| India’s leading public sector energy enterprises have taken a major step towards strengthening the country’s clean energy and natural gas ecosystem with the signing of two strategic Memoranda of Understanding at India Energy Week 2026.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) signed a strategic MoU to collaborate on developing a Compressed Biogas (CBG) project, aimed at reinforcing Bharat’s growing bioenergy sector. Under this partnership, OIL will implement a CBG plant using HPCL’s indigenously developed HP RAMP technology, which enables efficient conversion of organic waste into clean fuel.

The initiative supports the vision of a circular, low-carbon economy by promoting waste-to-energy solutions and reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels. The project is expected to enhance rural income, manage organic waste sustainably, and contribute to India’s climate and energy security goals. It also reflects the strong focus of both PSUs on indigenous innovation and environmentally responsible growth.

In another significant development, Oil India Limited and GAIL (India) Limited signed an MoU to deepen collaboration across the natural gas value chain. The agreement was signed by Ranjan Goswami, Executive Director (Business Development), OIL, and Sumit Kishore, Executive Director (Marketing–Gas), GAIL.

This partnership aims to boost gas production from OIL’s fields, particularly in North East India, by facilitating efficient evacuation infrastructure, improved market access, and seamless system integration. By strengthening connectivity between production, transportation, and distribution networks, the collaboration is expected to enhance energy availability and support balanced regional development.

Together, these strategic alliances underline the commitment of HPCL, OIL, and GAIL towards advancing India’s energy transition. By combining technological innovation, infrastructure development, and sustainable practices, the PSUs are playing a pivotal role in building a resilient, self-reliant, and future-ready energy ecosystem for the nation.

The initiatives announced at India Energy Week 2026 reaffirm the public sector’s leadership in driving clean energy adoption, strengthening natural gas infrastructure, and contributing meaningfully to Bharat’s long-term economic and environmental goals.
