BY THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA: Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) has reinforced its commitment to inclusive community development by signing four significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at improving health, nutrition, accessibility, and women’s empowerment across multiple regions. These initiatives, undertaken as part of HURL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, highlight the organisation’s holistic approach to addressing social challenges and fostering long-term, sustainable growth.
Under Project POSHAN, HURL has partnered with Parichay Foundation to support underprivileged women in Raghunathpur and Patia in Bhubaneswar. The project focuses on combating malnutrition by providing 190 women with regular nutrition packages, essential supplements, medical check-ups, and personalised counselling from trained nutritionists. Awareness sessions and continuous follow-up are expected to significantly enhance haemoglobin levels, BMI, and overall health outcomes among the beneficiaries.
Promoting women’s education and safety is the objective of Project Aashiyana, for which HURL has signed an MoU with The Kalgidhar Trust. The initiative involves constructing a two-storey girls’ hostel with 14 rooms at Eternal University, Baru Sahib in Himachal Pradesh. Designed to house 42 students, the facility will offer safe accommodation, hygiene amenities, and dedicated study areas. By easing financial and geographical barriers, the project aims to help young women from remote and underserved areas pursue higher education in a secure and supportive environment.
To enhance accessibility for differently abled individuals and the elderly, HURL has launched Project Swasthya Sathi in collaboration with ALIMCO. Targeting communities around HURL’s units in Gorakhpur, Barauni, and Sindri, the project will provide prosthetic limbs, wheelchairs, tricycles, walkers, hearing aids, spectacles, and other aids. Through assessment and distribution camps, the initiative is expected to benefit nearly 7,500 individuals over the next year, fostering independence, dignity, and improved mobility.
In the healthcare sector, HURL has partnered with HLFPPT to roll out Project Sehat Sathi, aimed at strengthening primary healthcare systems across Gorakhpur, Barauni, and Sindri. The project includes upgrading PHC, CHC, and Health & Wellness Centre facilities, installing advanced diagnostic equipment such as ultrasound and phaco machines, and enhancing maternal and child healthcare services. Training for medical and paramedical staff, family planning interventions, ANC check-ups, behaviour change programmes, and distribution of wheelchairs are also part of the initiative, which is expected to benefit approximately 50,000 people. The project aligns with national quality frameworks such as Kayakalp, NQAS, and LaQshya, contributing to stronger and more efficient healthcare delivery.
Together, these four initiatives highlight HURL’s unwavering dedication to social progress and inclusive nation-building. By addressing critical needs in nutrition, education, accessibility, and healthcare, HURL continues to create meaningful impact in communities and uphold its commitment to fostering a healthier, more empowered society.
