Marking the 79th Independence Day, the Government of India has conferred 1,090 medals upon personnel from Police, Fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Services for their acts of bravery, distinguished service, and meritorious duty.

This year’s honours include 233 Medal for Gallantry (GM), 99 President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 758 Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).

A total of 226 Gallantry Medals, 89 President’s Medals, and 635 Meritorious Service Medals were announced in the Police category.

Correctional Services Awards

No gallantry medals were given in this category, but 2 PSM and 31 MSM were awarded.
