By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) marked a historic occasion with grand anniversary celebrations commemorating 60 years of ITDC and 70 years of its iconic property, The Ashok, in New Delhi. The milestone event celebrated decades of contribution to India’s tourism and hospitality sector, highlighting the institution’s enduring legacy in promoting world-class hospitality and heritage tourism.
The ceremonial evening began with the traditional lighting of the lamp in the presence of Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, Tourism Secretary Shrivatsa Krishna, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management Arunish Chawla, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises Moses Chalai, and NITI Aayog Member Vinod Pal. Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi joined the celebrations virtually, adding to the significance of the occasion.
The event brought together policymakers, industry stakeholders and senior officials to reflect on ITDC’s journey as a key institution shaping India’s tourism ecosystem. Established to strengthen hospitality infrastructure and promote tourism across the country, ITDC has played a pioneering role in developing heritage hotels, luxury accommodations and tourism services aligned with global standards.
The Ashok, one of India’s most recognisable hospitality landmarks, has remained synonymous with iconic service and diplomatic hospitality for seven decades, hosting global leaders, cultural events and major national gatherings. Its legacy mirrors the evolution of Indian tourism from a developing sector to a globally recognised industry.
Addressing the gathering, Managing Director of ITDC Mugdha Sinha emphasised the organisation’s commitment to innovation, sustainable tourism and modern hospitality practices while preserving its rich heritage. The celebrations served as both a tribute to ITDC’s remarkable past and a reaffirmation of its vision to strengthen India’s position as a leading global tourism destination.
To celebrate seven decades of distinguished service by The Ashok, ITDC, in coordination with the Department of Posts, released a Special Commemorative Postage Stamp. A film celebrating The Ashok’s spatial luxury is also launched, alongside a stylised AR postcard that brings to life the film through an embedded QR, and an ITDC Gift Card, a comprehensive brand loyalty solution.
