By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has taken a significant step towards strengthening community-based tourism by inaugurating a Capacity Building Workshop for Tribal Homestay Owners at Hotel Samrat, New Delhi. The initiative reflects the government’s growing commitment to promoting inclusive growth through tourism while empowering tribal communities with the necessary skills and knowledge to participate in the hospitality sector.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Ranjana Chopra, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs; Manish Thakur, IAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs; and Mugdha Sinha, IAS, Managing Director, ITDC, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and ITDC. Their presence highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between government institutions in strengthening livelihood opportunities for tribal communities.
The workshop forms part of a broader initiative aimed at equipping tribal homestay owners with professional skills in hospitality, guest management, hygiene standards, digital communication, and sustainable tourism practices. By providing structured training and exposure to best practices in the hospitality industry, the program seeks to enhance the quality and appeal of tribal homestays as authentic cultural tourism experiences.
IHM Ashok, the prestigious hospitality training institute under ITDC, has been entrusted as the implementing arm for the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to conduct these capacity-building workshops. With its long-standing expertise in hospitality education and training, IHM Ashok will guide participants through practical sessions designed to improve service quality, operational efficiency, and overall visitor experience.
The initiative aligns with the broader national vision of promoting rural and tribal tourism as a driver of local economic development. Tribal homestays not only offer visitors an opportunity to experience indigenous culture, traditions, and natural surroundings but also create sustainable livelihood opportunities within remote communities.
By empowering tribal entrepreneurs with professional hospitality skills, the program aims to transform homestays into vibrant centers of community tourism. Such initiatives strengthen the tourism ecosystem while ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach grassroots communities.
Through this collaborative effort, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and ITDC reaffirm their commitment to promoting tribal entrepreneurship, skill development, and sustainable tourism, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and culturally rich tourism landscape in India.
