In a significant initiative to promote India’s rich Khadi heritage and strengthen its experiential appeal, India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has been honoured with the opportunity to present architectural designs for the proposed Khadi Experiential Centre at Bodh Gaya, Bihar.

ITDC Managing Director Mugdha Sinha, IAS, made a presentation showcasing the proposed architectural concepts for the centre to Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Jitan Ram Manjhi.

The presentation was attended by senior officials and representatives from the Ministry of MSME, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), and the Bihar Government, including officials from the Directorate of MSME and the District Administration of Gaya.

The proposed Khadi Experiential Centre is envisioned as an important platform to showcase the legacy, craftsmanship and contemporary relevance of Khadi. Through thoughtful architectural planning and experiential design, the centre can provide visitors with an opportunity to understand India’s indigenous textile tradition, its rural roots and the livelihoods it supports.

ITDC’s involvement reflects its expertise in tourism infrastructure, architectural planning and destination development. The initiative also presents an opportunity to connect India’s cultural heritage with tourism, innovation and entrepreneurship, while providing greater visibility to Khadi artisans and traditional industries.

The proposed centre at Bodh Gaya, an internationally recognised destination known for its spiritual and cultural significance, has the potential to emerge as an engaging destination celebrating India’s heritage, craftsmanship and the spirit of self-reliance.
