Key Government Appointments and Tenure Extensions Approved Across Departments

The Government of India has announced a series of appointments, re-designations, and tenure extensions across various ministries and public sector undertakings, reflecting ongoing efforts to ensure continuity and effectiveness in administrative leadership.

At the senior-most level, Rajesh Aggarwal, IAS (MH:1989), Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), has been assigned additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs from May 14 to May 23, 2025, during the leave period of Chandra Sekhar Kumar, IAS (OR:1992).

Prof. Abhay Karandikar has received an extension in his tenure as Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, for one year up to July 1, 2025.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of central deputation tenure for several officers. Kumar Ravi Kant Singh, IAS (UP:2008), Joint Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, will continue for two more years beyond June 1, 2025, or until further orders. Niraj Kumar Gayagi, IDAS (1997), Joint Secretary, Department of Justice, has been granted an extension up to April 6, 2026, completing a combined tenure of six years.

Anupam Anish Chauhan, ITS (2011), has been re-designated from Deputy Secretary to Director in the National Medical Commission under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The re-designation is personal to him and is effective from the date of assumption of charge, up to September 25, 2027, as part of his five-year tenure under the Central Staffing Scheme.

Gurjeet Singh Dhillon, IOFS (2002), Director in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has received a one-year extension in his central deputation tenure from March 25, 2025, to March 25, 2026.

In public sector appointments, the ACC has approved several leadership positions:

* Ajit Kumar Mishra, Executive Director, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), has been appointed as Director (Works), IRCON International Ltd.
* Gopal Krishna Sinha, Additional General Manager, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), has been appointed as Director (Human Resources), Troop Comforts Limited (TCL).
* Rajeev Kalra, General Manager, BHEL, has been appointed as Director (Finance), Yantra India Limited (YIL).

Additionally, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has secured ACC approval for the extension of additional charge of the post of Chairperson (Joint Secretary level), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, to Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS (C\&IT: 2000), Deputy Chairperson, for the period from March 11, 2025, to August 23, 2025, or until regular appointment.

The government also approved the promotion of three scientists from the grade of Scientist ‘F’ to Scientist ‘G’ under the Revised Flexible Complementing Scheme (RFCS), further strengthening the senior scientific cadre.

These decisions reflect the government’s commitment to efficient administrative functioning and the strengthening of leadership across key sectors.
