Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, former Bihar Governor, has been elected 14th President of India, after the election being held on Monday. Singing and drumbeats marked celebrations at Mr. Kovind’s home in Paraunkh near Kanpur and sweets were passed around long after the announcement. Mr. Kovind, nominated by the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance got almost 70 per cent of the votes for an easy win over the opposition’s candidate Meira Kumar,a former Lok Sabha Speaker. Mr. Ram Nath Kovind was born 1st October 1945, He was NDA candidate for President of India in the 2017 election, Mr. Kovind comes from Dalit leadership back ground and he was member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).He was Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017. Mr. Kovind married Savita Kovind on 30 May 1974. They have a married son, Prashant Kumar, and a daughter, Swati
